Between 19th and 23rd of November, in Sun City, TOPEX and its South African joint-venture partner, SS Telecoms joined the strategic partner conference of Nashua Mobile.

Iridiacom, the Hertfordshire based UK distributor has announced a partnership agreement with Topex from Romania. Iridiacom has been appointed as a Distributor for the Topex range of GSM, 3G and VoIP Gateways in the UK.

EUROCAE - European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment, is a non-profit making organization providing a European forum to establish reference standards, technical specifications and other documents for Airborne and On Ground electronic equipment and systems for the benefit of the aviation community as a whole.

To be a EUROCAE member is a great opportunity for related ATM companies to participate in Working Group forums where technical specifications regarding the most recent technologies, systems and equipments are developed. In this way, every Working Group has different tasks. The activities undertaken by EUROCAE Working Group 67 are examining the use of VoIP in an Air Traffic Management environment (VoIP for ATM). Members of this group include European ANSPs, European ATM Suppliers of VCS equipment and Ground Based Radio Systems, FAA, Eurocontrol, Telecom equipment suppliers and Telecom Operators.

Bucharest, Romania, 7 July 2008 - TOPEX, the European telecom equipment manufacturer and NGN solution provider, announced today that Infel Netplus, a subsidiary of the leading CaTV operator in FYROM - Infel KTV, has deployed Qutex equipment to complete interconnection with incumbent operator, Makedonski Telekom.

Topex provided Infel Netplus with a high quality solution for signalization and conversion between SS7 based network of Makedonski Telekom and the IP based network of Infel. The deployment is based on three interconnection points, in three different cities across the country, using SIGTRAN architecture.

Qutex equipment from Topex is a powerful SIP&H323 - SS7 platform providing transparent signaling interworking between circuit switched networks and the IP network. The standard use of the equipment allows the client to interface the PSTN traditional network through E1 interface to IP networks.

TOPEX successfully tested an improved VCS solution at Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration (ROMATSA) with Multi Frequency Coding (MFC) Signaling Converter which assures transportation of this protocol over the Internet according to EUROCONTROL specifications.

TOPEX VCS solution has been implemented at Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration for over five years and allows its configuration for a very wide range of applications in the ATC field. Due to excellent collaboration certified by traditional long business relations, ROMATSA, the organization providing the achievement of the air traffic control, chose to test TOPEX improved solution.

During these tests, the new ground-ground communication network between Air Traffic Control Centers from ROMATSA was provided by TOPEX VCS via MFC connections. The purpose of the MFC network is to connect many single units to a powerful and dedicated infrastructure.

TOPEX solution was internationally launched three years ago, being the world's first fully IP implementation in ATC environment but now, it has superior capabilities in line with the progress of IP technology. It is a secure and easy to deploy, upgrade and customize solution as it makes use of existent system infrastructure and has all the advantages of an IP-based solution.

Sierra Wireless provides embedded modules for TOPEX Fixed-Cellular terminals and GSM Gateways, enabling the company to build highly professional products famous for innovation, quality and reliability.

Through Xacom partnership, TOPEX has the opportunity to distribute its Bytton router in Spanish market and to expand its business relationships and its worldwide distribution network with a proven player having requisite skills and experience in telecommunication services.

Using HSUPA option, the Bytton router enables mobile data uplinks at speeds of up to 1.44 Mbps. TOPEX VCS, voice communication system intended for air traffic control applications and dispatcher - type communication centers, assisted in providing the flights synchronization during NATO Summit held in Bucharest between 2 and 4 of April 2008.

The North - Atlantic Alliance Summit was the most important political event ever organized in Romania and drew the attention of the entire world. Approximately 3,000 delegates - the most powerful people on earth, Heads of State and Government and ministers - analyzed a very busy political agenda, during a 3 -day marathon discussion.

During NATO Summit, more than 120 aircraft used for delegates transport landed on "Henri Coanda" International Airport, air space security being provided 24/7 by airborne forces and means belonging to the Romanian Air Forces, NATO and some NATO member nations.

Official delegates flights were pursued and supervised by ROMATSA (Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration) Air Traffic Controllers who leaded successfully the equipments from air trafic control room.

TOPEX VCS is one of these systems that allowed the dispatchers to access terrestrial phone lines, radio channels, intercoms and paging functions for an efficient air traffic deployment during the Summit.

This full digital system, flexible with TDM scalable architecture has been implemented at ROMATSA for over five years and allows its configuration for a very wide range of applications in the ATC field.

Due to TOPEX collaboration, ROMATSA delegates declared: "The equipment delivered by TOPEX is of excellent quality, manufactured from material of high reliability and endurance, it is suitable in all respects for the use for which it was designed and degree of accuracy, safety and reliability is as required in the official technical request. TOPEX successfully implemented this system in Romania for military and aeronautically authorities.

For the next period, TOPEX will implement two IP VCS projects on Arad and Bucharest airports including over 40 IP operators positions, radio, telephone lines, recording system.

The new TOPEX IP VCS solution was developed because of the company sustained efforts to adapt market available VoIP technologies to ATC particular requirements. In this way, TOPEX IP VCS is a fully redundant Air Traffic Management solution being flexible and easy to upgrade, integrate or customize.

For the fourth consecutive year TOPEX will exhibit between 11th and 13th of March at the world's largest event for the air traffic control and management industry, ATC Global Amsterdam, where its IP-VCS solution for ATC Communications will be presented.

TOPEX IP-VCS is a redundant digital system with flexible and scalable architecture to allow its configuration for a wide range of applications in the ATC/ATM field. The key components of this solution are: Controller Working Positions, Database, OAM, Media Gateways, Radio Servers and Gateways, Synchronization Servers.

TOPEX successfully deployed already two IP-VCS systems in Romania and prepares for more in near future. The company developed complete signaling stacks that comply with standards and drafts of International Regulation bodies (SIP, R2S, RTP, MFC-R2, Euro-ISDN, etc.). One key aspect with TOPEX system is geographical redundancy. The redundant systems can be separated geographically so that if a server in one site fails the second server in a distant location will become active. Geographical redundancy makes TOPEX IP-VCS resistant both to hardware and IP-link failures.

TOPEX participation at ATC Global consists not only in showcasing its developments but also in a presentation in the Seminar Programme for IP Communications.

"Pure IP VCS in ATC networks: architecture, protocols and implementation" is the title of the presentation that will be sustained by Radu Balaci, Business Development Manager at TOPEX on 11th of March. The presentation describes the IP VCS system flexibility, survivability and scalability far in excess of that provided by conventional VCS architectures based on a TDM structure. This way, TOPEX explains how to optimize cost of communication in ATC using IP solutions, at high quality standards.
