DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH replaces emergency transmit/ receive system with Rohde & Schwarz communications equipment

By 2017 Rohde & Schwarz will gradually renew the emergency transmit/receive system (NSE) of DFS, the German air navigation service provider, in Langen, Munich, Bremen and Karlsruhe. The company won an international invitation to tender for the ErNoCen project (renewal of the transmit/receive system for the control center business unit).

In the four control centers, the operating components of the controller working positions will be replaced with a solution that is based on the R&S VCS-4G voice communications system. The order includes the delivery and installation of almost 250 controller working positions. In addition, Rohde & Schwarz will develop a management system enabling the nationwide configuration and monitoring of operating components, radios, uninterruptible power supplies and other network components.

Communications between the controller working positions and the R&S Series4200 radios at approx. 35 radio stations will be based on voice over IP (VoIP) in line with the EUROCAE ED 137 standard. In air traffic control, VoIP communications are gradually replacing TDM-based systems. Rohde & Schwarz offers the R&S VCS-4G, which is a fully IP-based voice communications system in line with the EUROCAE ED 137 standard, as well as complete VoIP-capable radiocommunications systems. As a result, the company is ready to master future challenges in air traffic control.
